Some nice people out there- lakitu, 888sally888 etc. Wished me well with my trip to the states to meet my internet girlfriend, for the first time may i add. Well, it went so well i can't believe it. Because we had been seeing each other on the web cam for months, it was just as though we had met many times. We did not have one single awkward moment, it was really nice. We went to concerts, lots of days out, all in the Michigan sun. Her friends had parties for me, it was all very surprising but extremely comfortable. The upshot is, her friend, who lives on a beautiful lake, is a minister and she is going to marry us on the lake next summer. I know it sounds very soon, but we are both 50 and have nothing to lose. It broke my heart coming back, so i am going for 3 weeks again in September. Thanks for all your good wishes. C.

The only thing I would say is 50 is not old so make sure its really all ok before you get married - suppose I always have a little cautious bit in my brain!!
Am so glad it worked out for you and wish you lots of luck, love and laughter for the future.

Good for you, topogigo.
I fell for my hubby before I met him, had only spoken to him on the phone (we both worked at the same site).
I just knew he was the one for me, even though we had never met! Fourteen years on, I still think he's the best thing since sliced bread! (Wonder what folk used to say before we had sliced bread?)
All the best for a fantastic future together.
Lots of luv from chappie.

Yayyyyy way to go Top!!! So pleased to hear that it worked out for you!!!! I remember your post (& posted on it) and am really glad you have given us an update!
My Mum met and married my Step-Dad within 3 months of first meeting him as they both felt that after my Dad had died within a year of finding out he had cancer that life was for living and to grab it with both hands! They are very happy together and we couldn't ask for a nicer step-dad.
You took that risk and it paid off! I am well chuffed for you both! :o)

Glad to read that you are sorting things out first topsmymainman...lol.... All the Americans I have ever met (which is quite a few, plus I've lived with two) have been brilliant lovely people, it's just that they don't really approve of the *welfare system* as we know it - they are very self reliant and proud to be so. They are usually horrified at the thought of having to rely on others for any form of help, it really is not in their psyche. Hence, you will need to factor in private medical insurance etc... Also don't forget that employers there don't generally give more than 10 days annual leave (compared to say 25-30+ here in the UK) but they do have a few more bank holidays than us. One good mate of mine (he was British but had emigrated to the USA) had to save up 3 years annual leave in order to spend 5 weeks here in the UK visiting family and friends.
