Afternoon!
I'm off on a big bike ride this weekend to make up for the terrible sins of:
1. Takeaway pizza
2. Pub burger
3. Beer
Anyone else repenting this weekend? It's been hard to get out in this muggy weather...

Not sure if anyone buys the DM, but a woman wrote a very interesting piece the other day, about how she has dieted, and become something of a monster. In the sense that she now picks up on what others are eating, including the poor husband, and she doesn't seem happy with quite a lot of the changes she has encountered. Admit she does look good and she said she felt a lot better, but would calorie counting to the nth degree have something of a negative effect, i am trying to cut down, and have managed to, but confess there are times when i wish could go back to eating butter, because this other low cal stuff mostly tastes horrible
Noted Wendilla, but it was bought before deciding to make the effort, and approx 220 gms divided into say 8, and a bit eaten every few days: well I think I can fit in about 100 calories a time at that rate. Not sure it would last 8 weeks :-) but if it gets too hard I can always grate it. Just hate waste, and it has already been bought.
Hmmm I have a suspicion that it is the fruit (juice) in the evening that is causing problems. Maybe I'm just picking on it, but I down a lot more than I used to. Still a fortnight of keeping records should tell.

I go by Rosemary Connley's eating rules and that's where I get the bit about being careful of fruit. Of course we need to eat it but we should just be watchful of how much we eat and when we eat it. (with meals and not as snacks for instance)
I am definitely not here to set up rules for anyone but myself but just to share what I know. Like Wendilla I was doing so well until last summer and then little by little things started slipping. Now I am struggling up the hill again but will never give up. I am still in the position to say I have not put back what I lost and am really only aiming for one more stubborn stone, well just a bit under and I'm there, but it is very elusive believe me.

i am delighted to tell you all i lost the 5lbs.i put on last week, have stuck at the swimming as well.got a surprise letter from WW.this morning.i won one of their comps.a set of cuisipro tongs, they look nice and colourful, well i want to make soup again this week,i enjoy it at lunch time,my last 3 was scotch broth, french onion, butternut squash and red pepper,so i need some more suggestions please.onwards and downwards.
When I was going to SW and following their diet I would have a large bowl of mixed fresh fruit for breakfast and another for a desert in the evening. I lost 3.5st this way but since I've stopped going to the meetings I've cut down and just have the one for breakfast. I don't seem to have a lot of problem with fruit I must say but I understand about the sugar content of fruit, so I don't just snack on it. I think we all have our own way of cutting down but it's good to get other ideas from each other.

no evidence that grapefruit or its juice breaks down fat but because it is a strong flavour it seems to work by convincing the brain you've had more than a small drink...I think it over stimulates the tastebuds or something... fennel tea does the same thing for some reason If I really want something sweet a small hot fennel tea will sometimes switch it off... as does peppermint tea to a lesser extent,
I'll have to check if the grapefruit juice I'm buying is unsweetened, but I wonder if the shudder factor with too bitter a juice might result in it not being the juice of choice. Small glass eh? I'm unsure that would satisfy the craving for liquid in the evening, mouth seems so dry. I really ought to put water in the fridge. On a good night I can go through 200ml of juice easily. I suspect when I have taken enough records it may be 2 or more times that on a bad night, plus other liquids too if I'm honest.
OG how about a sugar free fruit squash in chilled water or something like the sugar free versions of tango or supermarket own brands you get the thirst quench of water/juice plus the flavour if you don't like plain water. or leave a jug of water in the fridge with lemon lime or orange slices in they will flavour it without adding calories
Cheers Rowan. Sure need to do something like that. Problem is I'm fussy about other things too. I used to try "low calorie" squash in my youth, and hated it. I guess sweeteners are better now-a-days, but I avoid anything that says, "contains a source of ...", knowing it's a warning.
Fruit slices in water eh? That's a possibility if I can find a jug to fit in the fridge door. (I have a small (table top) fridge only.) Yes that sound plausible, thanks.

Before I started gaining weight I was getting into the habit of drinking a Coke Zero every day and suddenly the weight started shooting up. There were other things too that I shouldn't have been eating but it was the Coke binge that got me on my life change so I don't trust fizzy drinks anymore except for a once a month treat or something like that.
