Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

How spooky is that the 1st of Octoebr and the weather starts to really turn cold? Hope you have been enjoying that little Indian summer in September now it is time for jackets and warming food.

We could talk about soups and stews (and let's face it we probably will) but I thought a nice change would be stir fry recipes.

This is a wonderfully diverse meal where you can add pretty much anything you like and serve it with anything you like noddles or rice for a lighter dish or crusty bread or even potatoes for something a bit more filling.

Here is one that looks really tasty:

Well done Xstitcher I have stayed the same but it is time for soups so that may help now . Just need that kick start again.
Apologies but the scales have blatantly lied over the last couple of days and I'm not prepared to give them credance by recording their little joke.
I'm with you there OG. I really, really think that a new pair of scales should be top priority on your Christmas wish list!
I second that lol
Now there's a thought. I have an Amazon gift token that has one of those immoral 'use by' dates. I need to use it by the end of the year or they just steal the value and give nothing in return. Maybe I should search that site for scales soon.
OG that is a splendid idea!!!!!!
Well done xstitcher, and 2lb off for me as well so pleased with that. Looking forward to soups myself so will be digging out some recipes.
Good for you Jan. I hope you have shined up your halo as I have done with mine lol.
We'll done Jan keep up the good work.
Thanks wendilla and yes, of course I have, xstitcher. :-)
Morning all. I did weigh yesterday but didn't have time to post about my 2lb loss. Yay! Congratulations xstitcher and Jan, good to be on the move.

Well done Maydup I must get a move on too I am staying the same too long. Watch this space .
It seems that minus two pounds is the flavour of the week. Well done maydup!!
Congratulations Xstitcher, Jan and Maydup. I have lost half a pound, which I'm happy about. I have done the shopping list planning to some extent, but not rigidly, but what I've done has helped me, thanks :-)
Good luck for next week Wendilla and OG. :-)
I'm glad that it seems to be working for you marijn. I have just started it again also and it is so nice not having to think of what to make for dinner before I get out of bed in the morning.
I don't think I can get the hang of this dieting thing. Even after all this time.

Sunday I recalled there was a small (490 gm) Brisket in the freezer and I really ought to use it, so I slow cooked it. (Or at least tried to, as the small combi oven I have doesn't go down to the temperature indicated on the websites I looked at, so it ended up a bit overdone.)

Yesterday I sliced a few thin slices for open beef/tomato sandwiches, for my evening meal. Surprised to see I use 3/5ths, but c'est la vie.

Today I look up calorie and fat values for a 490 gm brisket and my jaw probably didn't stop dropping as it went through the floor. All the websites must be lying. At those values no one would ever eat that stuff, ever.

But that aside, if it is as horrendously high in calories and saturated fat as they make out, how come I lost a ¼lb over the last 24 hours ?
Oh dear OG you really do come with questions....all I can say is that most meats are really high in fat...even if you can't see it. That is why we eat mostly fish and chicken.
Well it needed using up :-) And I have more to go ! I suspect I'll see a sudden jump up, probably by Wednesday morning, as the affect follows days after the event. Even so I don't think I'd want to avoid red meat for a lifetime. Why don't the lab folk work out how to breed sat fat free cows or something ?
I love meat but we just eat more chicken and fish than before.....I couldn't cut out meat completely plus I expect there are things in it that we need. You enjoy your meat OG and then balance it out with the chicken and fish.
