Ppi Claims
12 Answers
I've never really thought about finding out if I'm owed anything before, but friends are telling me that they have had monies for various credit cards and loans from yonks back.
I know there are a million firms offering to do all the paperwork for you (as a cost of course), but I was wondering how difficult is it to do yourself? Will I need to know account numbers and other such info? Has anyone managed to claim back without using one of the PPI claim firms?

It helps your case if you have account numbers etc as the card issuers will want to look at your original application form to see whether you ticked the PPI slot, did it over the phone or face to face, etc.
There have been several people on here who've reported success in getting money back without the claim companies.

The first thing to ask yourself is whether you actually had any PPI with any loans/credit cards. If you don't know the best you can do is to write to any lenders/card providers and ask.
I never see the point of using these firms- especially those who say they will help even if you don't know whether you had PPI- since you still need to dig out all the info to give them and they have the easy task of sending off proforma letters

this is how i did it.....mind you, be prepared for people to lie to you. barclays denied that they had attached ppi to my loans 3 times before i had to complain to the ombudsman, and they got fined for doing so (he he). good luck, it's a bit of work, but well worth it! x

and you don't have to have the paperwork to do it either.....you just need to write to them saying that you know you had ppi on x, y and z.....and you want it back for these specific reasons, please. i had pre-existing mental health problems that made the policy null and void, which is why i got my money back.....you do need to have a reason to claim, which is explained on the website.
We had a letter from a company telling us we had been missold a PPI and that we could claim. We hadnt a clue which PPI it was and went for it blind. We still don't know which account it was but we were paid out a bit of money for it. Have to say I ignored the letter until someone on here said they had had a decent claim. If you know the account and the account number you could try.
