run a 12volt, wire around my three small garden plots outside my bungalow.
It wouldn't be permanent, as the cats would soon learn not to go on there.

I have just had them covered with white stones, and already the local cat/cats are using them as a toilet.

There is no children living by, and I live in a small cul-de-sac.

If you have any electric fencing you are supposed to have a warning sign up.
The stones will encourage them as they probably look at it as cat littler.

As far as the illegal bit - what do you think LOL?

you can get ultrasonic devices - and didnt they used to grate carbolic soap in the old days - or was that an OWT
Covered them with white stones? Bet the cats are reaIiy pIeased you have given them a nice big Iitter tray! Try using Iion poo, apparentIy that puts them off!
I don't see any legal problems with an electric fence as long as it is an approved fence and the correct warning signs are in place. If they can be used to keep animals confined on farm land etc. I don't see an issue apart from upsetting your friendly neighbour by electrocuting their moggie.
Don't know if it's illegal but would be fun to watch

Amazon advertise a battery operated electric fencing kit which they claim that with constant use, unwanted pets will avoid the area. No reason you can't use your method.

## The cats don't really get hurt, and lets be honest, it's better than using anti-freeze. That works 100%. ##

Never heard of that before divebuddy, do you just spray it over the plot?
Please don't joke about anti-freeze. There were reports in my regional paper about idiots putting that down for cats ... it kills .. horribly.
Those electric battery operated fence wires work good. We've had a wire run over the top of the aviaries for umpteen years and it keeps them off. Pity they still find the garden attractive and insist on digging and crapping in the missus' flower/seedling garden.

The wire just gives them a 'hand/pawshake' and does them no harm. In all the years I've only ever seen one receive a hit, and that was new to the neighbourhood. I believe cats can feel the electrostatic buzz around the wire so give it a wide berth.
Inquisitive visitors however, who don't believe that a couple of batteries will give them a jolt, now have respect and won't touch the wire.

The electronic deterrent do NOT seem to work here.
I have an ultrasonic cat scarer thing. It doesn't work. If I could get high voltage wiring or razor wiring... I would ! Hate cats and this area is heaving with the vile things.
A large bag of chilli powder from your local asian store. Apply to area like talcum powder, and re-apply after rain. Legal, cheap and highly effective for all critters that need to sniff around before squatting down.
They surely won't notice 12v; well unless the suck the wire.
Ultrasonics run out of battery. Use mains or solar powered or it'll cease to be a deterrent and you'll only know when the trouble starts again. Anything you put down has to be replaced regularly and so is a pain, but I've fund camphor seems to help.

But I've learnt on this forum that flinging the deposit at the cat owner's window seems to get a reaction. It is, after all, their fault rather than the dumb cat's.
OG. From what I understand of such devices, its the amps not the volts that give the hit. Try catching hold of a electric fence on farmland, it really packs a good punch I can tell you, especially when it is turned up high, they only run on a 12 volt car battery!!
These fences generally use a 12v source..however the pulse given out can be greater than 10,000 volts.A 2 legged person would feel less of a shock than a 4 legged animal due to a better earth path.
They can only run on a 12v battery if you have the circuitry to 'up' the voltage.

Yes it is the current that kills, but you need the voltage to get the shock before the current limiting restricts the current and drags the voltage down; so it feels like static.

The impedance of the average cat doesn't change much so the voltage on the wire still needs to be high. Connect a wire to a 12v battery isn't going to do a lot.

Ever put your finger on the positive of a 1.5 battery ? Imagine a shock four times as bad as that :-) Doesn't bear thinking about.
trt, how could you even contemplate being so cruel?
