I'm afraid I would say no. Defaults in my opinion would mean you would fail a credit check.

even if it wasn't to actually obtain credit and everything was running ok with my account. as its only to work for them , is the credit check for a job the same as a credit check for money?

Yes again I'm afraid.

A friend applied at CIS for a job selling insurance once but failed the credit check. He asked why that matters and was told if you can't manage your own finances we don't want you handling ours!

but i spoke to the lady who gave me the interview and she said it should be okay, as long as i haven't been to court (ccj's) which i haven't and i rang my debt management advisor and she said as long as im upfront which i have been should be okay , what do u reckon ?
Ultimately it's up to your prospective employer. If they're in full possession of the facts and are satisfied with what you can do, then take it from there. If not, then make enquiries as to how the situation might be improved.
