I had a letter this morning from Mackenzie Hall asking to phone them. I did so and was told I owe about 500 to another company that they had brought the debt off. Now I'm not disputing this as my ex ran up a few debts in my name while I was with him. However this was one I am not aware of and dates back to 2004. I offered to pay it off in installments but they told me I had to pay it off in full by the end of February and they would give me a 25% discount. They said if I didn't do this they would take me to court and I would be liable to legal costs, interest and would have items took from my house or have attachments to my earnings. Can they refuse to take installments as this is an old debt (which is what they are claiming) or are they trying to scare me into paying it in full?

TIA

I really don't know but I would seek advice from the Citizens advice bureau. They will be able to help you.
It does sound unreasonable to me and I think I have heard bad things about Mackenzie Hall on this site before. Google the name and you will find out.
Good luck!

Thanks tigwig. I did a google search this morning, they are very unreasonable. I understand it has been outstanding since 2004 but I wasn't aware of it and I have suggested a way of resolving it but they don't seem to care! I'll phone Citizens Advice after the weekend.
