I recently paid 500 deposit for a new van at a showroom. Was told I had my usual 14 days cooling off period. Was going to part exchange my existing van, but was then told it would need at least 3 months MOT on it, which it hasn't got. Went home to think about it. Decided I didn't want to spend anymore money on existing van, so called to cancel the deal 5 days later only to be told I won't be getting my deposit back. Where do I stand ???
There is no 'usual cooling off' period as you bought from the showroom, unless you have it writing as part of the contract, or can prove you were told you had a cooling off period.
Even if you did have a 'cooling off period' it needn't necessarily have entitled you to the deposit back, merely to cancel the deal if you wanted rather than be forced to go through with it.
