Monumental cock up on my part. New carpet arrived this morning and it's about a foot too short. My measurements. Sheepishly Helped fitter roll carpet back up and as he was taking carpet out, he smashed a light fitting on the ceiling. One of a pair. Anyone know a good divorce solicitor?

Step 1) Make a joke of it?
Step 2) Any florists nearby?
Step 3) Blame specsavers?
Step 4) Get baking - chocolate, lots of chocolate....

good luck!
(Are they charging you full price to get a replacement?)
Question Author
Peas, the fitter said they would charge the difference plus a surcharge (?!!!?). It's not just that tho, we've taken the old suite out ready for the new one coming in on Thursday so we're probably not going to get replacement for then.
Question Author
Just waiting for them to call back.
Oh dear - Perhaps you could try and get the surcharge omitted due to the smashed ceiling light? They must get it all the time (people not quite getting the measurement right) and hopefully they'll have something in stock the same but larger to fit asap.... fingers crossed for you Zacs x
Question Author
Thanks peas. Let's hope so.
Agree with peas that the fitter should pay for the light fitting. Does s/he have liability insurance?
Pity he didn't hit the ceiling light with the missing foot of new carpet ;)
Question Author
We were supposed to pay the fitter approx £70 for his labour. I gave him £30 but after he smashed the light, he gave me it back so fairs fair. If I hadn't have got the size wrong it wouldn't have happened.

Harsh choux, harsh. ;-)
I'd ask him for an extra couple of feet. You're gonna need that for the doghouse you are going to be in for the next 6 months.
Question Author
True. Have found they have it in stock at least.
Bit like the carpet my fitter was carrying in, Zacs...

He knocked a pelmet which housed a row of old bottles.....one ricocheted off the wall and went through the front of the tropical fish aquarium.....☺
one day you will both laugh at this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but not for a long long long time.
Gosh your story makes me so pleased that the owner of my small local carpet shop came round and checked my measurements before ordering the carpet. I thought he might be doing because I was a woman but ...
Question Author
Gness, I nearly titled my post 'a Gnessian scale cock-up'. You've mead me feel a BIT better. ;-)
Lady- mmmmm.
Just think, Zacs....you didn't have to find homes for two dozen flapping tropical fish in a hurry.....☺
LOL Zacs, not gloating ...

Well not much.

Should have let your OH measure it. pmsl.

Never mind, you won't ever make that mistake again.
Question Author
Wouldn't care but I could have brought home a digital laser measure from work!
Ha ha, oh dear! Get's better. It was the new fangled measurer, not you, obviously.
Sorry I misread you, you didn't bring it home. Well you should have, obviously. I shall now go and chuckle my way round the supermarket thanks to Zacs and his new carpet.
