Even though it is tax free you still have to apply for the road tax for the year - you should have had a reminder from the dvla??

i didnt have a reminder as i moved home recently, im trying to call the pound in belfast but the number displayed is not letting me call !! nightmare.

but im not required to display tax ? if its tax free why dispay ? its impossible for me to return home im afraid they crush it !!!
Even tax free you will still have received a reminder. Whilst you do not need to display a tax disc now you still have to go through the procedure so DVLA know that you have all the current documentation. I assume being in Belfast your car will still be registered with DVLA. Is it registered as Disabled on the log sheet that makes it tax free. If so then you have to prove that you are still entitled to tax free status by providing evidence of entitlement. Regarding the compound issue I don't have any suggestions.
If you are not required to display tax then I imagine you would be required to display an exemption disc of some description? to make the authorities aware.
Was this an offer from Citroen to pay the VED for the life of the car? The Honest John page for your car shows a minimum of £30/years.

If it was a dealer offer you may have to tax it yourself and reclaim the money in which case our car was on the road illegally and that's why it's in the lockup.
Are you overseas on work?

If so is there anybody at your work that could help?

i have nothing and no one to help me, my mates do not have my keys to my house, i have nothing !!!! my car was bought from a dealer tax free for life. i did not renew it i did not think i needed too . i have no documents or anything to buy tax oinline, what a bloddy nightmare, my insurance and everything is in house, i have no one to help
This may have some useful information including phone numbers. Index down right hand side of page.

You no longer have to display a tax disc whether your car is exempt or not. All records are held on computer. The clampers have access to DVLA systems and records otherwise they would be picking up the wrong vehicles every day.
If you change your vehicles or address you need to let them know. You really haven't got an excuse.

I had my tax reminder this week - there is a phone number for the DVLA on the form you could try:
0300 123 4321
Explain your situation - it's worth a try
How was it taxed previously? Did you do it or the dealer? If it were the dealer, phone them.

Whoever taxes it usually it is still your responsibility to ensure everything is in order as you are the registered keeper.

If a car is 'tax free' for any reason - it is classed as 'disabled', low emission, vintage, whatever - the keeper still has to renew the tax every year even though a disk is no longer issued.

Have the DVLA got your correct address? You've moved recently. If the dealership or Citroen usually taxes it, have they got your correct address?
Did you notify the DVLA in good time of your change of address? If so they should have sent it to the correct address so you have grounds for appeal if they didn't
When a car is sold tax free for life as special dealer offer I'm sure the car still needs to be taxed each year by someone. The process should have been explained at renewal. What happened at the last renewal date?
You could try taking on the services of a car storage and/or transportation specialist who could recover the vehicle from the pound. They should be able to sort out the administration involved.
"The process should have been explained at renewal".
Sorry- I meant the renewal process should have been explained at the time of purchase"

Are you able to contact the dealer so you can ask them for clarification?
Why not tax the car on line ? The DVLA will have full details of your insurance on their records.

Do you have a current MOT ? Get a copy of this from the garage who did the MOT,and get someone to take it to the Police pound, along with a copy of the payment of the tax.
To tax the car online he needs his renewal notice which he does not have.
Hc.......But the dvla will have these details in their records surely.

If you've recently moved house and not notified the DVLA of your new address and your working abroad, how do you know its's been impounded /
SirOracle, you need a lot of information to tax a car online from documents that the OP doesn't have with him and can't access:
