usual think it depends on whether you use it
the amount of money and how badly you need the funds
fr'instance if you had paid it in today instead of waiting till after the closing time then the 2-4-6 rule would already be ticking - and you could issue a cheque on Thursday - could've I mean

oh if you have already paid it in
I think it is on the conveyor belt somewhere ( yes they really do bus cheques around the country)
and you cant get an accelerated action
yeah I do write cheques a lot as I am old and have been cloned amazingly and I am pretty sure it is as above ( not a service I often use)

The 'Direct Presentations Service' typically costs £20 to use. The bank you pay the cheque into sends it by Royal Mail Special Delivery to the bank upon which the check is to be paid from. So that means that they'll get the cheque on the next working day. It then takes them up to two more working days to clear the funds, with your own bank phoning you to let you know.
So you should allow three working days for the cheque to clear.

ex-mate of mine got a cheque signed by E. Regina from Buck Pal for something he provided for the wedding. He walked into Lloyds in Perranporth and asked for a rapid clearance of the cheque as he was worried about the credit-worthiness of the signatory. The gal behind the desk went white when she saw the cheque and the exploded with laughter.
