I have been with Yorkshire Bank In our Town for the last 35yrs+, I received a letter from the Faceless Bright sparks that the Bank Is closing in April, I know the Staff very well & can have the banter with them & if there's an Issue, sort it out within the bank, I sent a letter of disgust only to be told, you can bank at Burnley 9 miles away or go on-line, I replied If I wanted to go down that route I would have done that years ago, another letter received, you can take the complaint out with the Ombudsman, I phoned them again & said it was not a complaint but my disgust of the staff loosing their jobs, talk to the wall, we have made this decision & we are sticking to it, my reply, I have made a decision also, close the bank I will close my accounts and transfer, what way would you have gone, just out of interest.

Do not support this disdain of the customer, and move your custom elsewhere. No one is going to want to go 9 miles to visit their bank, especially if elderly, and many have the sense to want the proper contact and paperwork trail that goes with a decent branch service. It's what they use the bank for. Banks seem to have forgotten what their business is when it comes...

happens all the time..lot of hassle moving banks..I'd bite the bullet
Better the devil you know, TW.
I wouldn't have complained for starters. Branches close, fact of life, accept it or move banks.

How do you know the staff have lost their jobs?
I would have done whatever suited me best....the words nose and face spring to mind here.

Look for the best alternative deal I could get close to home, or as MM says, Bite the Bullet.
Banks tend not to take much notice of sabre rattling.
Put up & shut up is my response to my bank moving on. Online banking doesnt need a local branch.

They staff have said, they had a choice in a nasty term Ummmm, you can go to Burnley or finish, a lot of them don't drive so it's a case of redundancy, the attitude of the faceless wonder at the other end of the phone was in-real, I have moved my accounts, I'm my way of protest & from what I gather from my new Bank, a lot of people have done the same, I know it's the way of the world.
How often do you actually use your branch? We use ours about once a year; withdrawals from any bank, payments via internet etc, so, to us, a branch is irrelevant. In fact, for about 5 years we've had an account with the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society, just to get free cash withdrawals abroad; there's no branch within 100 miles of us.
Its called business TWR, you can't sustain a branch that's losing money if its not cost effective you cannot keep it open!
TWR, if the staff wanted to keep their jobs, nine miles isn't far - even by bus or train! Plenty of people travel a lot further. Do you not think you're over-reacting?
I'd have grumbled at the minor inconvenience to myself and moved on with the thought that these organisations do not exist to provide a service but to make money for their shareholders. If the powers that be have decided that branch is not cost effective, so be it.
My banks nearest branch to me is 350 miles, I do it online and if I need to pay money in I can do it at the post office!
I rarely use a branch either.

5 other banks in the town Islay, they don't seem to have a problem.
Perhaps the five other banks are making better profits or are happy to keep a loss making branch open. I have to say complete over reaction on your part TWR.
I sympathise, TWR. I'm the treasurer of a village committee, and the local branch of the bank that holds our savings account has shut. The nearest one is now 30 miles away.

I would love to switch banks, but all the hassle with signatories, proof of ID etc etc is not something I want to go through again any time soon. I hope I die before I need to go through that again. Good luck to the next person who has my job.

More than likely me making an issue with someone else's problems, that me, I wish I could keep my nose out.
The branch closest to home recently closed. I'm not in the least bit surprised, on the few occasions I used it I never had to queue.
And possibly therein lies the problem TWR. If there are 5 other banks, then that is 6 competing in one town, add in the internet competition and the huge amount of second and third tier lenders (let's face it, banks make most money from lending) and one wonders if it really is profitable to keep that branch open.
