I rent a property through the Council, who have my bank details as rent is paid direct to me from the council. A new law on Data Protection is coming out in May ... Should I sign their form saying I consent to the council holding and processing data submitted by myself . The whole letter explaining the Act is gobbledegook to me, I really dont understand any of it. Can someone explain in simple laymens terms whether signing the form will mean the Council can give my private details to third parties ....I am worried about my bank details ... I dont understand what will happen if I sign their form. Thanks all.

You have two choices : signal the form and nothing changes. Refuse to sign the form; they'll no longer be entitled to hold your data, and consequently will no longer be able to pay you.

Yes with it.
Need a legal opinion. Have to say that link goes to text which doesn't simply answer questions but goes on & on not even clear what's applicable to whom. My suspicion is that a landlord could be reluctant to rent out to someone who doesn't sign up.
