What Benefits To Claim

Hi currently my stepmother is only claiming attendance allowance, could she be entitled to anything else? Father has a forces pension and an oap pension, step mom works part time

Have you looked a Carers Allowance to see if they meet requirements?

No I hadn’t because palliative car comes in during the day I didn’t think they would be entitled

Have a read on the Government site, 35 hours a week of caring is the minimum, with evenings and nights she would probably reach that.

It's the disabled person who gets Attendance Allowance and that is paid only to someone who is aged 65 or over so I'm not clear who's getting what.

ubasses used to run a CAB bureau and I can recommend them,
and this will spare you giving further details on the internet

the rules are pretty arcane - my brother cant get PIP whatever, because he wasnt on it before age 65 ( I was ) - oh and the govt changes them at reg intervals

they said to me - you look pretty crap so we wont assess you and then a year later they said - crap or not, we are going to assess you....

If there's no CAB available locally maybe the council has a benefits advice service you could contact.

Please contact Macmillan who have an adviser & ask if a DS1500 form may be appropriate? (Sadly for someone perhaps in the last 6 months of life)

Macmillan also could consider a grant approx around £400 - say for pj’s or clothes or new bedding or increased bills from washing/drying/heating are the most common ones. Xx

You could also get a appoiment at your local job centre, they will advise what benefits you are entitled to.

Poor mother doesnt have time to go to job centre as that is in Norwich! she holds down a part time job - will do some further investigation on her behalf - the washing machine washes 2-3 sets of sheets a day and the increased heating and now we are paying privately for a further carer to come in for an afternoon a week!

if your dad is the one getting the AA, then the DS1500 won't make a difference because it is to get that benefit. Is your stepmum the one claiming AA or is it your dad?

also, if she claims carers allowance, they'll take her wages into account and reduce it on a sliding scale

She said and I quote - we only get attendance allowance as we are not allowed to claim anything else.
It doesn't seem right - his pension is not massive but is generous

Look for your local macmillan event- perhaps local library??

Ill eat my hat if your dad & stepmum werent eligable for a grant at the very least.

DS1500 if completed ensures the highest rate of PIP x
