With all the different things we hear about bitcoin, are they a sound investment? If they are which one is concidered the best? Or should I leave well alone?

I'd say unless you have a full understanding of how crypto works then leave well alone. For what it's worth I am a computer scientist and I have studied bitcoin and I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Hope that helps.

My problem with it is the huge amount of energy used in 'mining'.
