Lost Debit Card Replacement
Someone I know lost their debit card on Sunday. She rang the bank and cancelled it and the card was subsequently found and returned to her. The bank told her a replacement would be sent by post within 7-10 days. Not prepared to wait, she went straight to her local branch as soon as they opened this morning and says a replacement was 'printed out' in 5 minutes and given to her. I'm struggling to believe that. Is it possible?

How is it any less secure than the bank posting a new card to you? The bank clearly have a record of your PIN so it's no problem writing it on a new card; they don't need to see what it it, just copy it from bank records onto the new card.
The new card has a different 3-digit security code on the back. The card with the old code has been cancelled so can't be used. When you get a replacement card from the bank because your current one is about to expire it always has the same PIN as the old card; only the 3-digit cade and expiry date have changed.
