How do you go about buying your partners half of the house.. do you just contact a solicitor to write up the papers and get the house valued??

1. Get it valued - preferably by 2 or 3 local agents.


2. Agree with your partner what valuation you will use and what % each of you will have.


3. If there is no mortgage the solicitor draws up the documents and the agreed sum changes hands.


4.BUT you probably do have a mortgage with both your names on the mortgage as well as on the title deeds. You will have to convince the mortgage lender that they have adequate security if your partner's name is removed. This will not be easy unless your own income & the amount of equity in the property is high enough for them not to be unduly concerned. It might be easier to do it if you re-mortgage with another lender.
