If so, you must give your P45 to the Jobcentre and they will make any refund you are due. Job Seekers Allowance is taxable, and will therefore need to be added to your total earnings for the current tax year in calculating the refund.
If you don't claim benefits, keep your P45 for your new employer; if you start a new job before 5 April, he/she will refund you any tax due for the weeks you were not working. If you start a new job after 5 April your current P45 is not valid, so you should send it to your tax office with a covering letter, to claim a refund.
As has been mentioned above, the refund will only be for the current tax year, and will equate to any unused personal allowances for the weeks you are not working, multiplied by your marginal rate of tax.
