Is it fair that Women can draw a state pension at 60 while Men have to wait until they're 65?
What would the reaction be if it was the other way round?
Whatever happened to equality, or is it one way traffic.

No it's not fair.

In fact the government are about to phase in raising the women's state pension age - it will rise gradually from 60 to 65 between 2010 and 2020.

This is also regarded as Unfair by thse affected

Both sexes can claim Pension Credits at age 60 and with the former Income Support, men and women were classed as pensioners at age 60. Men receive National Insurance Contribution Credits automatically from age 60 to 65. As dzug has said the a woman's retirement age is changing and This will tell you when she can retire if born after 6.4.1950.

... And the only reason why the retirement age for women is increasing is because of a European Court ruling that the UK's age of the retirement must be the same for both sexes. The man that brought the case was wanting the retirement age for men reduced, but this is far too expensive for Gordon to finance without those of us in work paying even more in taexes to pay for it.
Of course it's unfair. Especially as women have a longer life expectancy here in the UK.

Well common sense tells me they live longer because men generally work harder than women. And work for longer too!
