my bank account has been frozen due to bankruptcy, i am off work long term and behind with the mortgage but cannot set up a payment plan for this due to my acc being frozen.I am in receipt of S.S.P at present but unable to open another bank account. Any advice would be great thanks
definately nationwide building society will let you open an account if you are a bancruptcy... i think tsb wil too..
however you have to ask to open a NON CREDIT SCORING ACCOUNT... flexaccount with n/wide... you can have payments going into this account eg. wages and benefits and still pay out direct debits / standing orders etc.... you can have a cashpoint card but cannot go overdrawn...
make sure you ask for a NON CREDIT SCORING ACCOUNT (FLEXACCOUNT) they will open that for you instantly at any branch make sure you bring i.d etc
good luck!
Most banks and building societies offer a basic bank account, without overdraft, chequebook or credit facilities, for people in your situation, or for those whose main income is state benefits etc etc.
I have a co-op cashminder, which is a typical one, and which lets me have an electron debit card. I can also set up direct debits and standing orders from it, as well as have my salary paid into it.
Most basic bank accounts are not available to bankrupts. Nationwide & Co-op are, & also Barclays.
If you are only on SSP how are you going to afford a mortgage? Also, you may well find that the property is taken and sold by the Official Receiver - this depends on how much equity there is in it. Look at the booklet on the effect of bankruptcy on your home - on the insolvency.gov website. If you feel you need some independent advice you could try approaching the CAB or CCCS or National Debtline.
