Bank account.

My mum set up a building society account in my name without telling me and put 5,000 into it so that the gov couldnt touch it. She did this without me knowing. I have since had a huge fall out with my family and have been kicked out. I want to know what will happen to the account as she cant withdraw money from it without my signature. Would she be able to go in and close it on my behalf without me knowing?

If she forged your signature once she can easily do it again. In fact the signature would be "genuine" because that is the signature associated with the account. The name she writes is irrelevant. Your signature was not on the original paperwork, so you should not be able to sign a withdrawal. I know it is a bit of a technicality, but it could be important. She does not need you to withdraw the money.
BenDToy - banks have reason to be more cautious when you're withdrawing 5K as opposed to depositing 5K.
Also, regulations and ID requirements have changed relatively recently. These have tightened up significantly and this might have happened since the account was opened.
kissyfur - if your Mum is being mean to you at any point, use this as a bargaining tool! lol

Remember, families are forever. You may not be speaking to each other today - but at some point in time you will be again. If you are smart you won't let something like money slow down the healing process. Also, speaking as a Mother, I am sure she still loves you - even if she can't deal with you right now. You might just send a card from time to time to keep the lines of communication open - even if you get a few of them back - things will change eventually.
