I work for a charity shop, and today we recieved a copy of Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince. It is a hardback copy and it would seem that it is limited edition, as there is no paper cover to protect it, and the pages are gold on the edges, the book has also been signed by JK Rowling (this has been printed on all of these copies) but I would like to know. Finally it also is in it's orginal clear plastic wrapping. How much do you think it is worth if it was on sale in a normal book shop? The RRP is 30, could we make more than this? Would we make more money selling it on eBay and just giving the money that way?

If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask, as we need a proper pricing on it to make money for British Heart Foundation.

Thanks in advance.

i wouldnt have a clue how much its worth, but have had a thought, maybe you could raffle it, you might get more that way, just a thought.
flog it on ebay, xmas is coming so you never know what you could get...
They seem to be selling via Amazon's agency sellers for between 30 - 45 secondhand, but some are selling for much less, around 14. There's one on ebay that's currently at 35.

I think what you have is just a special/deluxe edition rather than a limited edition as it's still available via Amazon (at c. 20 - RRP 30). There are similar editions for other books in the series. I don't think you'd get much more than that unless it was actually signed by JKR herself (from what you say, it's the edition where her 'signature' is gold-blocked on the cover - ISBN 0747581428).

Given that 'ordinary' editions are selling secondhand at around 3 - 5, I wouldn't imagine a charity shop price of 10 - 15 would be too much to ask, and I don't think you'd exactly be giving it away at that, either.
Hi Tim
On these so called limited editions of the Harry Potter titles it should say on the back sticker above the ISBN and bar code whether it's a first edition or not. These are sold alongside the regular hardbacks as limited editions but aren't really that special as the print runs are increasingly huge.
Due to this it is doubtful that first editions of the 5th and 6th books will really amount to much.
Check out www.jkrowling.com news section regarding the authenticity of the signature. Apparently there are are a lot of fake signed copies out there!
