It is your tax code so that your employer knows how much to deduct from your wages for Income Tax - Pay as You Earn.

If your employer doesn't know it, you pay emergency tax, a higher rate that can usually be claimed back, less the money you should have paid.

The code will be on your P60 from the tax office and your wage slips.

Telephone your tax office if needs be.
It could also be your tax reference - which is the code your employer has in dealings with the tax office.

It too should be on your payslip (probably) or P60 (definitely) - on mine it's called Tax Office ref
I think it is what Dzug is referring to. The first 3 numerical digits indicate the Tax Office where your records are held. There should be a few letters or numbers after this which give the unique reference of you employer.
