I received an email from ebay confirming change of email address. I have not requested this and know nothing about it so replied accordingly. This was just after 6p.m. when I was waiting for advice of a payment so that I could post an item. Checking my ebay account, I could not obtain entry. Found on ebay theft site that it is manned 10a.m. to 6p.m. so my account if at risk all night.

Has anyone any info on how to prevent or limit losses?

You must contact Live Help straight away - your account has probably been hijacked. Check there are no strange listings against your user id

Very many thanks, hopefully completed satisfactorily had visions of a sleepless night. I cleared out my PayPay account because I thought they were after funds but still mystified as to exact reason it was hijacked, would like to know more just in case I can help others.

However, it seems that my account was being used to sell Mobile Phones - in US - I suppose - I deal in lingerie. I did have an email from Texas two days ago which didn`t make any sense, followed by one today demanding goods which had been paid for.

I have mail-order business, well extablished but sluggish at moment so tried ebay. Got good results, sales of stockings/tights only small amounts but hopefully lead to continued orders so invested yesterday in adverts then this happened. Normally get paid by PayPal immediate but today customers made mistake with order so I was left waiting to send goods off so maybe got wind of scam early.
Glad you got it sorted.
eBay do seem very good at resolving these hijacked accounts - the obvious scam is an eBay account with good feedback is hijacked to sell high value goods that don't exist. It is theft.

I would advise anybody with an eBay account to check their listings regularly, especially if they have dormant accounts which have not been used for a while.

eBay are certain that this can happen only because the true account holder has clicked a link in a phishing email supposedly from eBay and entered account information that the scammers use to take over the id.

I am not convinced this is the only way - but do be careful of any emails from any company that ask for information.

Good luck with the eBay enterprise - I hope you have no more problems like this one.
I have had a couple of spoof e mails from paypal. I have been told by them that ebay and paypal do not send emails with links to take you to their sites, you have to physically type it in to the address bar.
