Duties and taxes

Just got a letter from Parcel Force asking me to pay �18.00 for unpaid duties and taxes on a parcel that has gone through delivery without the charges being recovered. I couldn't think what parcel they were holding but then I realised it was for a parcel that I received last week, It was something I bought off ebay for a friend. Can they pursue the charges as it was there error, (although I wasn't aware that there would be any further charges), or should I pay up. the parcel wasn't signed for and the garment inside only cost �40.00. What should I do???

Yes they can pursue the charges. Whose error it is is irrelevant.

Whether they will bother is another matter.
