If you're receiving welfare benefits on behalf of your son you could have them paid into a Post Office Card Account. Contact your local DWP office.

You need evidence of who you are and where you live - most banks have a list of acceptable IDs which goes beyond a passport/DL.
The Post Office Card Account is (in extremis) openable without any ID at all, but it's not a cheque account - all you can do is have a benefit paid into it and withdraw cash (chip/PIN) at any Post Office. Your son can authorise you to have a separate card to operate the account for him - or unofficially just use his.
Ask the DWP about it - not the PO. You need a letter of invitation before the latter can do anything.
