I have received today by e.mail 3 different banks asking me to update my bank details as i do not bank with any of them and would not give any details out to anyone. (I wasnt born yesterday) do you think I should contact by phone the banks themselves?

No you should either delete the emails or fill in incorrect details. If you fill them in with wrong names, it will make it harder for the scammers to determine the genuine users and at least offers a little protection to the numpties that actually fill these things in.
