Oddly enough we do that in every shop where we pay by credit card! Really we should all abandon our credit card companies who are the ones who charge the stores everytime we use one of their cards!
So most companies calculate this cost assuming everyone is going to use a card to pay and then add that to the overheads and therefore the price of the goods!
I think its a better system if companies added the surcharge at the till when someone opts to pay by credit card, that way people who pay with cash/cheque or debit would get a better price.
I agree with Mrs Pegasus. I say we should aplaud IKEA as they are the only (ok one of) shop that states they are putting on a surcharge for the costs incurred for Credit Card transactions. All shops currently swallow this cost by adding to the price of goods...therefore, we should boycott all other shops!
I applaud Ikea's stance on this. Not sure why dodgyshirt thinks it's penny pinching. I object to paying his 70p, and all the others. (S)he is the penny pincher. If you want the benefits (interest free periods, cash back, purchase protection, purchase insurance etc) then you should pay for it. Think of it as a discount for those paying by other methods, and if you want the discount, you pay by Switch or cash or cheque or whatever, and forfeit the cc benefits.
Anything wrong with the continental system of haggling? We Brits just seem to sit back and take whatever sh*t is dished ip to us.
Power to the People!!!!
It's shocking considering that the Credit Card companies earn 99.9% of their revenue from the interest on their customer's debt!!
Don't blame IKEA, blame the credit card companies - they have everyone over a barrel. It's a win-win situation for them.
