No. You cannot get them removed unless thye are worng or mistaken. They are not, as you freely admit you didn't pay till the debt collectors were mentioned. I would be very very surprised if vodaphone do remove them. About getting a rip off mortgage -you should have thought about it before you refused to pay money you owed. the mortgagre company want an easy life - they dont really want to take on people who they are going to have to chase for money i guess.
In my opinion, you get what you deserve in this life, and if you had paid your debts when you should have you wouldnt be in this predicament.
However, i am not an expert, and if they are removed off your credit file, the only thing you can do is try and remortgage at a lower rate
