DESPERATE FOR HELP!! - soon to be single mother

Hi im going to be a single mother in 2 months, i work full time and will be taking maternity leave... i am currently living with family in a 2 bed house and need to move out as there is not enough room.... Please can anyone advise me on what help i may be entitled to??

hi there, this link will give you an idea of financial support options, as for housing have you considered renting privately? there is virtually no available council housing so you would be waiting forever

my neighbour bought a caravan and parked it in the front drive and it became an extra bedroom, not ideal I know but it was useful to them.

hi thanks for your help, id like to rent private but wont be able to afford the rent and bills whilst on maternity pay and once i go back to work will only be earning �11000 per year

you may be entitled to housing benefit or some sort of assistance

you should apply for council housing all the same, but bear in mind that they have thousands on the list who have been waiting for years to move, some of these people live in very unsuitable accommodation ( eg)a family of 6 in a 2 bed flat)

What cazz says about council housing is undoubtedly true in some areas but it would be wrong to assume it is the same everywhere. You should certainly apply to your local Council as they will have a duty to house you if you can no longer live where you are now.

You also need advice on all the available benefits - go to your local CAB.
