Delayed Gas Bill - 2 years !!
8 Answers
Hi all. I moved into my new property 2 years ago and gave British Gas my meter readings. They told me they did NOT supply my new property. Despite many phone calls , emails and even physically seeing one of theie employees to sort it, they still denied being my supplier. Today i recieve a letter saying they are, so im guessing im goina have a woooping bill. My friend seems to think they can only backdate one year as they cant really pinpoint what units where used when and the cost of units at that time. Any ideas greatly appreciated. I really did do all i could but they were having none of it.

"If your supplier is at fault, and you do not
receive a bill for more than two years, then from July 2006 any outstanding debt that relates to energy consumed more than two years ago will be cancelled. From July 2007, this will reduce to one year."
They should apologise and add a credit to your bill.

This exact scenario happened to me, I moved in in December 2006. I finally got it sorted a month or two ago.
First of all, they only charged me for one year, writing the rest of this off. They then heavily discounted the year they charged me for. They worked it out to be around 500, then halved it for goodwill.
They acknowledged that over this time I had made every effort to pay, ringing them and emailing and so forth on a monthy basis at the very least from December 06 to March 09, as have you. They have all this on record.
They were really good with me so don't worry too much about it.
