Insurance cover for mortgage if made redundant.
2 Answers
I paid insurance cover for my mortgage to be paid for a year if I was made redundant.
I worked for the same company for 34 years and was made redundant in Oct 2009. I am now not well enough to work at the moment and was on employment support allowance. I was sent for a medical assessment and the doctor who interviewed me insists that I am fit for work but my own doc agrees that I am not.
They have since stopped my allowance and are refusing to complete my claim form for my building society so I now have no money coming in at all and still have to pay my mortgage.
Please can anyone give any advice as I want to know if the ESA people are entitled to do this after me paying the insurance cover for over 20 years.
My doctor has put me on medication to try and help me to cope with the pressure. I am at my wits end as I have never been in debt before in my life and never claimed benefits ever before.. .

you could make a claim for Jobseeker's Allowance and they will consider paying the interest on your mortgage. the ESA people can only consider your claim on the basis of their own doctors. if you have had a benefits decision letter, does it say you can apply for a reconsideration, or appeal? you have to do something now, if you have no income. CAB (or other welfare advisory body) can advise you.
best of luck.
