under 16 bank account

my 14 year old brother wants to open a bank account. all the id he has is his birth certificate. i think this can be used to verify his name but what can he use to verify his address because he doesnt have any bills or letters or anything because he's only 14. what can he use?

If your brother lives with his (your) parents, and they have a bank a/c, perhaps they could write a letter confirming he lives at the address;  he could then try and open an a/c in the same bank or branch as them.

maybe. if i asked his school to type out a letterheaded letter confirming the address do you think the bank would accept this?

Ask the bank before approaching the school. Every bank up and down the country will be in the habit of dealing with applications for accounts from 14 year olds so they'll be able to tell you exactly what you or he needs.
Whichever bank it is, just phone the number that they advertise as dealing with applications.

Some banks recognise that teenagers live with their parents so it is sometimes acceptable to bring in a parents' bill as long as the surnames match.  Otherwise, a letter from the school can also be acceptable but if you contact the bank first, they may have a certain format that you need to abide by.
