Anyone taken propranolol 80mg for anxiety? Did it work. I finally plucked up the courage to go to gp today and he has given me propranolol. I was so pleasantly surprised at how understanding gp was .... I have been so fearful (truly) and embarassed (horribly) abput admitting to anxiety. Feel like a failure for having such high anxiety but gp was .... Marvelous!!!!
Thanks chrissa. How long for you to feel normal (ie not controlled by stress) ? It has taken so much struggle to get myself thru gp door to say "help! I'm struggling" and I wanna feel normal again,
Thanks thenry. You're right I shouldn't feel ashamed ..,, but I DO! I am embarassed to say I am struggling. I have been for along time. Dr prescribed zopiclone and propranalol and wants to refer me for counselling. He also said he'd book me off work for a bit .., but I declined .... It's best (for me) to keep busy and staying in alone with my thoughts would not be healthy,
Firstly glad the GP gave you a lift! I've taken this (10mg tablets) when required for years. I find it's excellent in real situations that make me anxious - meetings, presentations, flying in turbulence etc but not so good at my illogical anxieties (like just being home doing nothing but feeling anxious for example). At the very least it's a comfort knowing you have it though and doesn't give me any side effects like being dozy or foggy. Good luck and millions suffer with anxiety you know, you're not alone.
Thanks prudie.it is very very helpful to hear from someone who knows about it first hand Interesting to note it works for real life scenarios but notnecessarilly for the illogical ones. My "real life scenarios" (ie work / home /shopping/ cooking) are clouded in panic because of the "what if" (in other words usually illogical)scenarios. I'm so Hoping this will help.
p.s. any psychiatric condition can and should be treated promptly. it has nothinbg to do with failure....either wonky brain chemicals or conditioned behavioural responses. well done for getting some help....and your gp should be understanding! x
I have been taking these for a few months now and have found they really help, I also had my first counselling session yesterday, came out of there feeling really drained, a couple of hours later though I felt a real lift in my mood when I thought about what we had discussed, put things into perspective. Good luck eve, hope things get better for you soon xx
this medication can be used for a variety of conditions, including as a preventative for migraines, it comes under the beatablocker catagory of medications, I've been taking it for about 6months now but only 40mg, I have found over time that my body has got used to this dose and may need upping as i was told by my gp when i first went on it, but i am assured by my gp that it is not addictive and can be used long-term goodluck and good health
