Film could be ET or solution could be ON SET (film studio or location) but cannot see how to work cross-dressing into any potential soution. Thanks.

Thanks Mamyalynne - best answer - and others. Must have led sheltered life - had never come across TV as abbreviation for transvestite. The 'become member of board' seems a weak clue to me in an otherwise clever puzzle - Saturday Guardian.
