School Allocation Notifications Today, But....

Asked this in Family Life, but it seems to have gone to the cellar.
the school that my daughter wanted for her 4yr son was not granted, and he has been allocated a school that she didn't want, and twice as far.
The school she wanted is in a small village, about an 8 minute drive from her house, and not to far away from her office.
The school that has been given, is about 15/20 minutes drive, depending if she is not held up by the race horses going out for exercise, (Newmarket).
It is also in the opposite direction of her office, and would take about 20 minutes to get there, depending on the horses again.
If her appeal gets turned down, is there another way to go?
She is a Health Visitor, and has home visits to new mothers, mornings & afternoons.
Note: Newmarket has a big traffic problem in the mornings till noon, due to the amount of horses crossing roads to get to the heaths.

## Which is her allocated catchment school. Winning an appeal is very unlikely - what grounds is she appealing on? ##
Not sure which is her allocated catchment area, but as said in my 1st post, the one she wanted is only a short distance.
With regards to appealing, to early to say, she only got the e-mail today.

Living in the catchment area doesn't come far enough up the list. Look on the local authority or school websites to find out the ratings criteria.
Round my way it is Local Authority placed (those in care or foster care)' then health related (such as disability,learning needs etc), then siblings already in the school in the catchment area, then catchment area, then out of catchment area with siblings in the schooland (I think) then staff children and lastly out of area.
You can be in one of the first sections and still not be guaranteed a place if you get your application in late. You are bottom of the heap then.
If you want to appeal you have to have grounds. Again this can be found on their websites.

Just noticed that you are an 8 minute drive from the school. Not sure about rural schools but 8 minutes here and you would be in a totally different catchment area. Look at the catchement area not the amount of time it takes.
Some catchement areas are so defined that a road that is as the crow flys closer may not be in the area but another next door is.
