my mums ashes

does anyone know the law on someone who as passed away and if there is any rights to the ashes because the reason i ask my mum died and her husband will not tell us what he did with the ashes and if he as scattered them i know that he is the next of kin but im her son and that means more then a marriage certificate.?! is they any law that could get him to tell us what he as done with them or scattered or not

I seem to recall in the dim and distant past of my studies that there is no property in a body or the remains of one - ie no one can claim "ownership". I am sorry to say that I think klondike there is nothing you can do to force your mother's husband to reveal the whereabouts of the ashes.

Also as your mums husband is next of kin, the marriage certificate does mean more than you being her son..in law.
