hi to all that answered my previous posts on this subject. i never really thought about the complications regarding social services. i have had a good think over couple of days. this morning i went and basically dragged my sister to my house stuck her in front of ab and got her to read my previous posts. so that she could see that when i tell her social services will take them away, that it is true.
after just staring at screen for a while, she just broke down, and for the fist time ever she said the words me and her girls have been longing to hear 'I NEED HELP '.
we had a good chat and finally something seems to be getting through. I HOPE. we have now come to a decision that she will get some help to stop the drinking. the girls will stay with me while she is gettin help then when she is tready the girls will move back with her. but also while she is gettin help my friend is going to move in with her. help her sort her house out and get her back on track. it also means she will have extra help with the girls when she has them back. it is such a break through, i just hope she sticks to it. my question now is what can i do to help her when she is having a bad day? has anyone had to deal with someone coming off an addiction? what will and wont help her right now.
thanks to all that have answered over the last few weeks

I think the best you can do is contact one of the support agencies as I'm sure they have advice for supporters of addicts, just to get your own support.
I'm sure that she will have ups and downs and like most people say, she will hit rock bottom, but you need to let her do that! I'm sure you will be a rock for her as you seem to have been this far.

hi andrea thankyou. it has been such a crazy month. i am not going to tell the girls anything just yet as i dont want them to get there hopes up incase she gives up. the older one has been through so much but still misses her mom very much even though she hasnt been there for them. i am hoping that she will stick with it. she held the baby today for the first time since they came to me and she just sat staring at her with tears in her eyes. this is the first time i have actually seen her have some feelings for her baby. it was so nice to watch. i love the girls to bits and wish i could keep them forever but no matter what there mom has done they still belong with her. so i will do everything i can to try and make that happen.
