why can u never please them all at the same time?

It's a pretty big age range to amuse. If the numbers are fairly evenly matched why not try 'buddying up' the children i.e. pair a school age child up with a pre-schooler.
Older children like being responsible ( well, most of them) and there is no reason why you couldn't play most of the usual party games in 'pairs' with the older ones helping the wee ones to pass the parcel , keep still, find a chair or whatever.
Have fun.

Hmm, trickier to pair them up then.
There's some good games ideas for younger children here

If the older ones don't fancy joining in ,I'd still think about asking them to be helpers or ' judges'

Musical bumps - last to hit the floor when the music stops gets a sweety and is out - prize for winner.
Pass the parcel with a little bag of chocolate buttons in every layer - cheat to make sure that everyone gets a chance to unwrap a layer.
Balloon keepy uppy - they have to keep their balloon off the floor without holding on to it.
the best thing to stop tantrums and keep interest going is to make the games short and make sure that there is a reward for being out as well!

hi annie, thanks i never thought of musical bumps. the little ones will be able to understand thia better. i have also cut out lots of balloon shapes and i am going to hide them around the house or garden. when they find one they get a sweet but will limit it to so many each, so that the big ones dont get them all.
keep the answers coming please
annie the balloon idea sounds great but little one who is 3 next month hates balloons, i cat even put any around the house for his brother

Try hiding sweets in the garden - we did this when my boys were younger. Surprisingly, they didn't scoff them all, but asked us to hide them again! The older ones can help the little ones, and they could bring them back to share out and put them in their party bags..... There are always those who will stuff themselves anyway! Could you hide them in the house if it rains? Make sure you have boundaries as to where they can look!!
