I am 28 married with two children and have always craved to be a career Mum. Two months ago I finally landed my dream job, nut it has turned out to be a nightmare! My boss is a complete cow, I’m working 24/7 and hardly get to see the children or my husband anymore. I really want to leave but I will feel like I’m will be letting myself and everyone else down as I have worked so hard to get to where I am today. But I just don’t know if I’m cut out for this job. Shall I stick it out or look for something else?

I seem to be always chasing the dream job and then when I get it I hate it! I thought I could have it all, husband, Kids, Job, It seems not!

At only 28 your kids must be young, and balancing home and family life must be exhausting .
What job role do you do ?
you;ve only been there 2 months, perhaps you need time to settle in. why the long hours though?

I'm a photographer, my kids are 6 and 2 its very exhausting!
Can you not tell your boss how you are feeling with a third party there?
you say she is a cow but dont say why ?
What do you do now? And what would your dream job have/be? I have 4 children and do Homecare, which fits in perfectly with their school day. Can be hard to fit everything in, but being happy in your job definitely helps!

There is just two of us, me and my boss. My boss has got a split personality and I always feel like I'm on edge. Sometimes she's lovely, but most of the time she is in a bad mood.
ahhh not a cow all the time then
what hours do you work and how many days a week?
do you have the freeedom to get out and about on jobs? maybe try for another photographers job. have a word with local newspaper and go freelancing for them

(i've just paid one photographer approx £1.5k for work over december)

I work 40 hours per, and its really killing me! I really feel like just giving it all up, but worried I might regret it as employment photography jobs are hard to come by.... Also I feel like I have something to prove as I was always told I'd be nothing because I had my children young
well you need to find what works for you, i would stick at your current job as its only been a short period and may improve with time, or look for alternative employment
i'm not sure 40 hours is a lot, i do that. is it unsociable hours then?
Question Author
Well I work evenings and weekends, but I think its difficult when you have young children. Maybe I just need to adjust to the new job.
well i can see how that is going to impact on your relationship with hubby and kids, is there anyway rounds it, perhapp doing a couple of days then nights?

if not i'd put up with it for a set amount of time, get yourself as much experience as possible, then look for either another job with more socialble hours or branch out and go freelance. you'll still have to work weekends but you'll be arranging your own schedule

Thanks Mccfluff sounds like a good idea (:
as for your boss being a cow, well we all get like that sometmes and its prob nothing to do with you, she's just taking it out on you. not fair i know but it does happen. i can be a right biatch on a monday morning, well any morning really :-)

i would try to spot when she's in a mood and avoid her if poss, if not just be nice as pie and remember its not forever.....

You have not said who is looking after the children. Is your husband a house-husband or does he have to work as well? If you are the breadwinner there is no reason why you should have to come home to housework and the children can be organised round your work the same as it would be if it was the other way around.
