It feels like a little bubble popping in your abdomen area at first. The only reason I figured it out then was because I had a moniter on and the doctor told me it was kicks. I thought it was just trapped air in my digestion, or funny pains. remember your little baby isn't that big yet. I could feel my son kick very early because i knew what to look for.
How many weeks are you? If it's your first it can take up to 22 weeks to feel anything or you might be mistaking it for something else.
If you have an anterior placenta (at the front - they discover it at your scan) then that makes an extra layer between the baby and your skin and can make it a lot harder and take longer to feel anything. I've got that and although now at 7 months pregnant I can feel her moving very well, earlier on I could only feel it when she kicked certain places.
Is your midwife picking up a normal heartbeat on the doppler because that's the most important thing. Take care and I bet you feel her moving soon.

I remember with my first pregnancy, I was sitting at work and felt something a bit like butterflies in my stomach and phoned my Mum and asked her if it was the baby moving and she said yes that's how it feels, but I could only feel it if I sat or laid very still until later on. So if you are quite active and always moving about this maybe a reason you haven't felt it yet. Try putting your feet up and relaxing and I bet you feel it soon
I think I was about 18 weeks when I first felt my daughter move and as someone said, its like little bubbles popping or having butterflies inside of you and I only knew this as its what my late mum told me. You need to know what to look for really.
Don't read too much into what books etc. tell you - every pregnancy is different and so long as your midwife is picking up the heartbeat with the doppler you have nothing to worry about. You may just have a baby that doesn't move very much.... when she's bigger and kicking you in the ribs and jumping up and down on your bladder at 3.00 in the morning you'll wish then that she'd keep still for a bit!!
Take care of yourself and try not to get yourself too stressed out about these things (not easy I know!) and I hope everything goes really well for you and your little one.

wouldn't worry one jot. First time round it can be late before you feel anything, cos everything inside is all tight and taut. I was about 22 weeks for my fuirst flutter, and even then, I wasn't convinced. My mum hardly felt any kicks with my wee brother (despite it being her 2nd), even at 35 plus weeks. Turns out he was a very sleepy, lazy baby and just didn't move much at all. Your ante natal checks will monitor movements etc, so try not to worry. Every single pregnancy is unique, these books etc are only very general guidelines, and can cause more worry than re-assurance sometimes. Take care, relax and enjoy. xxxx
