When do the 7 Year Old Sats start?

Our school starts beginning of May

My son had a letter yesterday telling us to make sure that we don't book holiday's during May -

Thank you for this information.  I have also received the steer from my daughters school, that no holiday will be authorised throughout the duration of May too!

I personally still feel that 7 is far too young to request tests throughout the duration of one month ie:May.  I know they are like little sponges, but talk about aiding pressure on such a young and vunerable age!

I know I'm not as worried as I was one or two years ago, when there were loads of disputes on this matter.  Since then it appears to have calmed down considerably and the teachers are not even telling the children about the tests at all.

My nearly-7 year old wouldn't know what a sat is and I haven't mentioned them to him. Don't worry though, it's just bureacracy for them, not us.

As a teacher, I too feel that SATs at 7 are wrong. However, there is no pressure on the children  - just pressure on the teachers. The results are used to rank the school compared to other schools. Schools then get "value added points" depending on how well the children progress between now and Y6 SATs.

It definitely is reassuring that the Teachers feel the same way about 7 year olds sitting SATS as well the troubled parents!
