I am apealing to older Mums and grans out there for some advice, why is it now a bad idea to make up a couple of feeds to keep in the fridge for later, also for feeds to be kept for more than two hours eg at night to be warmed when the baby wants it ? i used to take a feed to bed with me along with a flask of hot water so that if the baby woke the feed could be ready in a minute or two, my older grandchildren had bottle warmers and if we took a baby out for the day we took several made up and asked for a jug of hot water in a cafe to warm them, all my children thrived on this way of doing it also all my older grandchildren, but now the younger one is msde to wait for ages for his feed as it has to cool down from boiling, even with iced water it takes ages, poor little soul gets so upset each time.

I've never heard that this practice was bad. I used to make up a day's supply and put them in the fridge. It's fresh milk you are making up and a bottle of cow's milk lasts for at least three days in the fridge.
I've never heard of it before.
I think someone is labouring under a misapprehension, somewhere.....
They say you shouldnt- my friends make up bottles of cool
Boiled water and when needed mix up with the powder now!

One dosent warm bottles now.

One warmed it up and the milk goes easily stale and baby wound up in hosp!!

Id keep the cool boiled water in bottles, heat water and add milk powder very last xxx
Mwahahaha!....you'll be making hard work for yourself :-)
But then it would still be too hot for the baby to drink straightaway, as the water has to be hot enough to mix with the powdered milk properly Tinkerbell.
My friend has like 4 bottles all just the cool boiled water sitting with the sterilized lids covered, heats up the water, adds a scoop of milk and shakes! Easy!!

If i "borrow" the child for the day i get handed the bottle and the milk powder amongst a whole other 3bags of stuff hahah x
Not in my experience chrissa because as i say one friend dosent heat all bottles and ive mixed it with cool water no problems xx
They say breast is best. I say breast is convenient.

This has probably come from the baby companies....
Well, each to their own. I agree with ummmm, too much faff that way.
I imagine there is more to the 'baby wound up in hospital' than a simple *formula* problem.

There would have been several generations never out of A&E if that were the case......
No the milk was made up- quickly went off and he wound up in hospital therefore she dosent pre make his bottles now. X
It's the guidelines due to the fact that a tin of formula is not sterile and cold water may not kqill any bugs in it. I used to boil some water and then add powder and the balance of cold water once mixed. I did also take warm water bottles out with me and add powder when needed.
Makes me think of my poor Nan. My Uncle used to have two bottles at each feed.
How long did she keep it "made up"?
I used to make up bottles with hot boiled water, leave to cool, put in the fridge.

Red, surely the powder that came from the unsterilised tin is still the same?
when my daughter had my grandson, we were advised to make all feeds afresh and NEVER stock them!

i breatsfed, so i asked my mum all this, and she said my dad used to make a days worth at a time for her, and keep them in the fridge!

obviously, there needs to be a happy medium, but taking one up to bed would be fine in my book!
Not too long- aparently now adays the milk sours very quickly- and shes not the type to have things lying for hours x
I was also told these new guidelines but if it was not convenient I chose to ignore them and my baby never came to any harm over it. Nor did his sister who is now 7. I made all of hers the night before, stored them in the fridge and warmed up when needed. With my second I followed 'the rules' when possible but on a night I would take to bed 2 or 3 bottles that had been previously made up and cooled in fridge and store in a cool bag. Then in the middle of the night all that needed to be done was warm them in the warmer, simple! I would do what you want to do and remember that guidelines are just that - there to guide you its not the law.
im 26, i used to make madams feeds up in advance kept them in the fridge till needed, then nuked them in the microwave. When out i took a flask of warm water and the powder in the bottles and made as needed.
Mi had only bad excema and a hospital acquired infection, and apart from that shes thrived and a very keen foody.
