Can you get pregnant at any time of the month or just when you are ovulating? I know that sperm can live up to five days in the vagina so you have to take this in to consideration but bearing in mind people can try for ages to conceive, what is the likelihood of getting pregnant in say..the first or last week of your cycle - if you have a regular cycle?

the greatest chance of you getting pregnant is around the time, when you are ovulating.

Recently, though, somebody said: I conceived my son one day after my period. I know it's not possible, but nontheless, he seems very real to me.

:o)

I would say that if you have a regular 28 day cycle then getting pregnant at the beginning or end of your cycle would be pretty unlikely...

If you are asking this question in order to avoid pregnancy, I wouldn't risk it! you never know when your cycle may decide to do a U turn & take you completely by surprise. It's like using breastfeeding as a contraceptive..generally it does work while you aren't having periods (some women do have periods whilst breastfeeding, others like me don't) but you never know when your body may decide to start ovulating again ;o)

If you are trying to conceive, then of course it is best to do the 'baby dance' during ovulation. You may know when this is happening due to changes in your body (raised temperature, increased mucus, increased sex drive etc) but if not, there are ovulation predictor kits available to buy.

Pippa, you can have an intercourse a day after your period and still conceive since sperm can last for a good few days inside before it fertalises an egg. Just like Cymbeline said.

Yep ~ you certainly can, but as I said it is unlikely..not impossible.

Given that *most* regular cycles are 28 days long and you ovulate in the middle of this, sperm would have to live for two weeks (again unlikely).

None of my children were planned as such, I just let nature take it's course ~ however it took a year to get pregnant with one of them, & I put that down to the fact that my husband was on shifts & only available right after my period finished...we finally managed it when he was off sick with a cold!

Thy this..... http://www.ovulation-calendar.net it I never used this exact site but it worked for me ;o)
