i didnt see it, did they put the formula in first or did they not level it off? i was 18 when i had my son and i knew how to make a bottle, it tells you on the tin how to do it!
ooh and people not sterilising properly, my mum friends daughter doesnt wash up the bottles, just puts them in the steriliser without washing them up, and she is in her 20's, i mean a bit of common sense is all it takes!

I didn't see it but have to say that there is absolutely no excuse for mixing formula incorrectly. If you can't follow a simple set of instructions then what hope does that poor child have?

Beggars belief..

I agree boobesque ~ it's not really anything to do with age just a lack of common sense which is blimmin dangerous when raising kiddies :o(
its not always age, my son is now 7 and has no tummy problems and i was 18 with him, (well he has a feeding tube, cos he cant eat) but not once did he ever get a tummy bug until he went to school, whereas my mate who is 27 had her child in hospital with tummy problems cos she was mixing the formula wrong and do you know what - she STILL does it!

They were putting 8 scoups in a 7 oz feed and 5 in a 4 oz feed.

It clearly states dosage on the side of the carton!!

It was also the mother of the 15 year old that actually told them what dosasge to use.

It was a 'routine nanny' that had been enlisted to help them for one week that picked up on this and not the health visitor.

Poor child must have been constipated.!

woops scoups should have been scoops!!
i know a shocking amount of mums that add an extra scoop! if you try and mention it they get defensive even if you are nice about it, i couldnt work as a health visitor etc as it would drive me crazy! Some people just dont listen and think they are doing right, but adding scopps makes the milk the wrong consitency for the baby to digest comfortably
hey, now i cant spell scoops!

Some people seem to have this strange idea that by adding an extra scoop the baby will go longer between feeds or sleep better.

It may be due to advice handed down through the generations (my grandmother told me she used to put porridge in my bottle!!!) in the 60's & 70's it was quite common practice to thicken formula. In Sweden they have a special 'night time' formula which is thicker..you can even get a special teat to allow the thicker mixture to get through.

Of course this isn't advised in our country!

My daughter is 5 months old and all these stories are making my toes curl! How can people be so irresponsible?

My son is 10 months old and i still sterilise about 90% of his bottles. I have been told that i could stop at 6 months but ive chosen to gradually wean him off sterile stuff to avoid a sudden exposure to too many bugs.

I cant believe that someone would not wash a bottle before sterilising, thats disgusting.

As for adding extra scoops to a bottle, why? If baby wants more food give more liquid.

I have been told in past to give extra 0.5oz of liquid in a bottle but this was in height of summer and to stop my baby's constipation when he was a week old. It worked but i only did it for couple of days until back to normal.

i stopped sterilising at 1 year, only cos my son was a premmy, but i think after 6 months i would carry on until they are crawling and trying to eat the cat!
I'm so glad I missed this programme, I would have been roaring at the TV. As I have said on here before I stopped sterilizing my sons bottle when he was nearly 5 months old because I was in the kitchen one day sterilising bottles and found him in the hall licking the mud off his pram wheels! lol

I can remember my Mum trying to add more formula to my sons bottle (he is now 14) she wanted to double the scoops, never mind just adding one more scoop. I had many arguements with her over it but I know she still did it even after she was told and told and told.

I think her generation regulary gave a bottle stuffed with baby rice ect and she thought it would give me more time in between feeds if she put more formula in the bottle. (it didn't)

Maybe thats what made him have such a Kevin the teenage attitude. LOL
