My 2 1/2 yrs old son sleeps from 8pm - 6pm approx and gets out of bed for very brief visits to our bedroom from between 1 and 6 times per night. He does not have a daytime sleep and has not had for the last 6 months. Has anyone else had this and if you did, did it get better and at what age? (The lengthening of the night time sleep rather than the wakenings, as I know they will stop!((she said hopefully!))

Do you mean 8 pm - 6 am ??? All you can do is just put him back to bed with no fuss and gradually it will improve. Compared to some I think he is doing really well, just don't be tempted to have him in your bed or to get involved in any rituals like lying down with him or other things like that.

You've got nothing to worry about!!

I took my 3yr old son to the HV just yesterday as he only has around 7hrs per night - from around midnight til 7am waking 1-2 times for the bathroom - he also has no daytime nap!!

She assured me that he is fine and healthy and it may just be normal for him and just what he needs!

Not much good for us parents though!!...She also suggested the rapid return technique as lady_p_gold mentions - but warned thatthis can take a few weeks to work and you've really got to keep your nerve and don't give in!!

A xXx.

my son is 3 in august. he sleeps 6.30pm - 6.30am and very rarely wakes. he has no sleep in the day. but i know people whose children sleep less hours and regularly wake during the night. lady_p_gold and andrea_h give good advise about returning him to bed asap and not engaging in conversation, just say 'u need to go to sleep' and leave him. it can take a while to take effect but persevere he'll soon understand that getting out of bed means he'll get sent back to bed and eventually won't bother getting up. well thats the theroy anyway!! xXx
my son aged 6 sleep from 7.30pm till 6.30/7 am,maybe once going to bathroom - BUT he only slatred sleeping thru the night last year and was getting up over 30 times a night till last year!!
My little lady, is 2 and a half, and is up anywhere from 4am to 5.30am, and we have been putting her back to bed for months now, to no avail.... She no longer has her day naps, and it doesnt matter what time she goes to bed at, she still wakes up between these hours. Heres hoping it will get better eh!
