I think 6 months is the minimum recommended before flying.
Correction; 8 weeks is the minimum, but many experts advise 6 months.
Babies hate Aeroplanes(don't blame them).
Why don't you travel to Europe via the tunnel or ferry, they usually sleep well on car journeys.
I travelled on a four hour flight with my son when he was three weeks old. I know we are a bit more cautious these days but there is no way it can be much longer unless, either you are in some kind of post natal trauma or, your baby is premature. If you both come through a normal birth then I am sure you will be okay'd to travel in a relatively short space of time
its 2 weeks with easyjet.
Check with the airline you use as they differ. If you're going to France it's still a trek but you'd be better off in the back with the baby (where you can nap too !!!) and then your not turning round all the time. I suppose it all depends on how far you want or need to travel.
12wks is the age i saw it when i was watching airline the other day and this woman wanted to take her new baby on the plane but they said she couldnt as it wasnt 12wks said its to do with the ears
I saw that with scottish lady and her baby was 10 days, and there limit was 2 weeks. Many doctors say not under 12 weeks because of the recirculated air and increased risk of illnes because of notting have had the jabs.
I travelled abroad with my son when he was 8 weeks old. The health visitor advised me that as long as he had his first set of needles i could do the day to day things you do on holiday ie swimmimg.
its up to the airline you fly wih they all have different guide lines i took my 4 weeks old and it was so relaxing and we got to spend time as a family recomend to anyone
My husband and I were supposed to move to the STates in September.
Our little one would have been just under two months old.

The midwife said that it was easy and no problem to travel with babies at that age.

The move did not come off, so now we will be flying to visit family with him in December, when he will be five months.
I took my daughter home on a 10 hour flight to China when she was almost 4 weeks old (we were in business class, granted) and my son Hong Kong to Beijing when he was 6 days old. There is no lower age limit with the majority of airlines but there will likely be a problem getting a passport in under 4/5 weeks for a newborn (DH was foreign office so pulled some strings for us). The ears are as mature at 1 day old as they are at 100 years old, nothing widens or gets bigger etc to make air travel easier. Apparently if the mum and dad suffer with earache when flying the baby is likely to as well, no matter the age of the child.

Check with your airline first and check passport issues. Make sure your baby is sucking during landing and take off (if only possible to do one then do take off).

I have taken my two on thousands of miles worth of air travel between newborn and 2 and never encountered a problem (though the other passengers may not have liked it!!!)
