Coldy baby off her food

Hi, my nearly one year old daughter has a cold and a nasty cough and she's been refusing to eat for the last few days.

When we managed to coax her into a few spoons of vegetables last night she threw up, and all she's had so far today is 1/2 a weetabix. I don't want her to make herself iller by not eating.

Is this normal? Will her normal appetite resume??

Thanks.

Poor baby,
I don't think she'll come to any harm by not eating for a while, maybe she has a sore throat as well.
As long as she has plenty of liquids and is eating a little I wouldn't worry,I'm sure she'll catch up later.
If she gets a high temperature though or is obviously ILL (more than a cold) I'd get her to the doctor, just for your own reassurance.

Thanks for your reply. She is having mainly breast milk and sleeping lots, so it's like she's a tiny baby again. If it carries on much longer we will go to doctors.
i think as long as your child can drink plenty of fluids and keep them down then she will be ok thats what the doctor has told me before when my kids were sick, just to make sure they dont get dehydrated......hope she gets well soon xxx
My 8 month old baby had exactly the same prob before Xmas. I just breastfed her on demand and once it cleared up she was back to eating solids again. I think that children under 1 still get most of their nutrients from milk anyway. However, if she can't keep down fluids or is having breathing difficulties or just it doesn't seem to be shifting I'd go to the docs. I thought my baby just had a cold but it turned out she also had an ear infection that needed antibiotics.

Hope she gets better soon.

Hi, we ended up taking her to the doctor on Friday as she really wasn't happy, and it turns out she has a mild ear infection which the doctor said should just clear up by itself.

She's also got a bad cough and still not eating, but much happier now, so hopefully she'll gradually get back to normal.

Thanks a lot for all your posts, they were extremely helpful and reassuring.
