We moved our 21 month old son into a toddler bed just over a month ago. He always used to wake up between 6.30 and 7am but over the last 3 weeks its been getting earlier and earlier and now consistantly arount 5.30.

I dont want to shut him in his room as he makes a right old racket and wakes his older sisters up, so he has been coming in our room and I just put cbeebies on and try and try and dose....

Any suggestions? We dont really want to go to bed ourselves at 9pm to compensate for the early starts!

Could it be that his room is too bright from the sun in the morning??
Common problem in our house when the clocks change and the sun come up early. Try a blackout curtain or blind they work well but try to put is close to the glass in the recess. If you hang it off the pole lots of light gets round the edge. If not make sure toys are available and encourage him to play or "read" till the alarm goes off then it is getting up time. Ours have always be taught that they can come out of their room when the alrm sounds. Handy if you want some peace as the alarm conveniently goes off late!!!!!
have you thought about putting his cot back and seeing if that makes a difference. It might just be that hes not ready for a bed yet.

Blackout blinds are a good idea if you havnt got any yet

We have already lent the cot to friends who are expecting. : (

Im am going to get some blackout blinds this afternoon and pray that these work (for my sanity !)

Thanks all
Let me know if anything works Black Noir. 5.30 would be a lie-in for us as our 15 month old daughter is consistently up at 5am and sometimes as early as 4.30, absolutely wide awake - which obviously we aren't! We've had black out blinds since day 1 and close all the other doors on the landing but still she's waking up!

might have to resort to gaffer taping him in bed at this rate.

I do feel slightly better now HM1 4.30 !!!! ARGGGHH
BN &HM1 Look on the bright side, at least when they go to school you wont have problems getting them up!
maybe he is afraid of the dark.
