Scans...do you want to know the gender of your baby?

My 18 year old daughter is 20 weeks pregnant and having her scan today,she is going to ask if they can tell whether she's having a boy or girl. How many of you expectant mums want to know what gender your baby is? When I had my kids (20,18 and 10) the hospitals had policies of not telling you,I would have loved to have known for definite even though I had guessed correctly with all 3.

I am 10weeks along and I want to find out. We have been living in our first house for less than two months so money is tight and we would like to be as prepared as possible.

Knowing my luck though my little ****** will have his legs crossed so we will be unable to see!

Hi natalie... my daughter is thinking the same about her baby,she's convinced it will be facing away or have crossed legs,I hope not because she will be so disappointed. I can't wait to find out so I can go out and buy all the cute little things for her for whatever gender. Buying unisex is so boring.lol. This is my first grandchild and i'm very excited by it.lol. I didn't want to be a granny so young(39) but what the heck,I had my first child at age 19 so I can hardly preach can I.lol

hi we had to know! we couldnt wait, so when the consultaint was doing the scan, we asked.....and he said why do you want to know?! , we just cant wait was the reply, and after some more prods he announced, its a girl!
months later when in surgery for my c section they shouted its a girl when she was produced. i kinda felt then i should have waited the duration!

i didn't know with either of my two - our health authority only does a dating scan unless there are any reasons to do another. I think they had a policy of not telling anyway.

However, i think in retrospect I would have wanted to wait - it is the excitement of not knowing that helped me through my first labour and my second was a planned section, so i felt that i already knew when the baby wasto be born, if I already knew what the gender was as well, it would have taken away from the excitement of waiting for the doctor to announce the birth.

I can see though how it would be difficult not to ask when you know that you can find out!

I didnt want to know with my first but i had decided it was a boy anyway and was right. On my birth plan i stated that me and my partner wanted to find out at birth, not have it announced by the midwife so i was such an experience to meet him and find out it was a boy together.

Im now 8 weeks pregnant and again Im sure its a boy. I wont be finding out though. I have many unisex new born clothes that my son never even wore and his nursery is unisex too so I wont need to prepare for the arrival of a girl if it turns out baby is a girl.

Besides, i love the surprise and to be able to tell everyone sex and name rather than just birth weight and time of birth

My daughter just phoned to tell me she's having a boy, I would have been happy whatever but she is over the moon.She knew before they told her as whenever she has looked at baby clothes she has gone straight to the boys section. It is very odd how the majority of mothers who don't find out for definite seem to guess right anyway.

Congratulations to all the expectant mums who have replied to my question,I hope your pregnancies are as easy as my 3 were and that your children bring you nothing but joy.

How exciting! Oh my God, you have made me so excited now and I have to wait 10 more weeks before I ight be able to find out. oh a little boy, and before I had no preference but now you have me think i want a little boy! Oh bum! I am sure if you'd said she was having a girl I would want a girl too.

My kids are 2 girls and 1 boy and I can honestly say boys are much easier to bring up!!! lol. Everyone I know who has kids says exactly the same thing. I have already been trawling the internet for things for baby boys :-)

Natalie...I know what you mean about those hormones,they wreak havoc don't they!!!

I'm trying for my second now and at my first I didn't want to know, but I will this time as I want to help my son bond. Thought it would be better to name the baby and get my son used to the idea of a baby sister or brother.

On my first I instinctively knew so I felt like I didn't need to ask though!
